Mini vs. Full Tummy Tuck

If you are considering having a tummy tuck procedure, you may have come across a lot of articles about mini tummy tucks. While the name makes it sound ideal, like a smaller surgery, it is not always great for everyone. Read on below to discover why it could or might not be for you!

The procedures

A mini tummy tuck is done by your doctor making an incision just below the bikini line – low enough to be hidden below any clothing or bikini. Any excess skin below the navel is tightened by pulling it down, and attaching it to deep inner tissue to hold it. Any excess is trimmed away to get rid of sagginess. Then the incision is closed.

A full tummy tuck also involves an incision below the bikini line, but it is sometimes bigger. It will also include an incision above the navel, in order to tighten the skin there. This is the main difference between the two procedures. A full tummy tuck is a bigger procedure, but will be ideal if you have recently lost a lot of weight, or need more forming.

Which is best for me?

If you have got a lot of excess sagging, or if your need your entire abdomen from lower abdominals to chest – then a full tummy tuck will be necessary. But if you just want to get rid of a lower belly pooch, you can have a mini tummy tuck done, and be able to have less visible scars afterwards.
