Breast Augmentation

What is a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation by Dr. Alan Serure in Miami is performed to enhance the size of the breast and improve their shape and fullness. This is done through the use of a saline or silicone breast implant. Implants may be placed under the breast and more commonly underneath muscle.

Breast augmentation may also restore breast volume that may have been lost during pregnancy, also known as postpartum involution. This is a very common reason why women seek breast enhancement surgery as part of a Mommy Makeover.

What implants are used for a breast augmentation?

Two types of breast implants, also known as breast prosthesis, are available and approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, (saline). If a saline implant leaks, the solution is absorbed into the body and naturally expelled.

Silicone gel implants are filled with silicone gel. In the event of a broken implant, silicone will usually remain in the implant pocket and confined to the space within the implant capsule around the prosthesis. Silicone implant rupture may occur outside the capsule.

What happens during a consultation for breast augmentation?

During your consultation with Dr. Alan Serure, he will determine the ideal implant type and size to complement your body. We will conduct a thorough medical history review. If you have undergone previous breast surgery, we will develop a plan to maximize your results. Dr. Serure will review preoperative requirements to ensure patients understand the surgical preparation. Patients considering cosmetic surgical procedures must be in optimal physical condition.

What is a breast augmentation procedure like for patients in Miami?

A breast augmentation is performed at our state-of-the art operating facility in Miami. Our board-certified anesthesiologist MD will administer either MAC anesthesia, total sedation or general anesthetic. Dr. Serure will make an incision either in a natural crease under the breast or at the border of the patient’s Areola or the armpit. The breast implant will be inserted through this incision, which will be closed meticulously with layered sutures and Steri strips. The most common placement of implants is sub muscular through a Peri Areolar incision. Of course, options will be discussed.

Fat Transfer to Breasts

Other treatment options, such as fat transfer to the breast, are available. Fat transfer to the breast is a method of enhancement that involves removing fat from another area of the body (abdomen, hips, or thighs), processing it, and transferring it into the breast.

What is the recovery for breast augmentation?

Following a breast augmentation procedure, patients must refrain from strenuous activity and exercise for four weeks after surgery. Normal daily activities may resume as soon as two or three days after surgery. We will see you in the office following surgery for postoperative care to optimize your outcome.
