Breast Reduction

What is breast reduction?

Having them big may not always be better when it comes to breast size.  Many women with disproportionately large breasts suffer physically due to the excessive weight put on by their large breasts.  To address this concern, Dr. Alan Serure provides breast reduction surgery in his office in Miami, Florida.  Breast reduction is a cosmetic procedure that can help reduce the size of large breasts through the removal of excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue.

A breast reduction in Miami will make the breasts proportional to your body frame and will alleviate the discomfort from the weight of excessively large breasts. This procedure can be performed on a woman of any age group, but it is more advisable to put it off until the time that the breasts have completely developed.  The effects of a breast lift in our office in Miami are immediate and can be appreciated right away by patients after the procedure.

Should you consider getting a breast reduction in Miami?

If you are unsure if a breast reduction is right for you, our team of experts in Miami will provide an assessment to see if you will benefit from the procedure.  Below is a list of conditions that usually suggest that you have disproportionately large breasts and that you should consider a breast reduction in our office in Miami:

  • The breasts are noticeably larger in proportion to the body frame
  • The breasts are starting to pose problems to posture because of the excessive weight
  • If the weight causes back, shoulder, and neck pain
  • One of the breasts is larger than the other
  • The areola and the nipples are pointing downwards
  • If the weight of your breasts are pulling down on your bra straps causing indentations on the shoulders
  • If you suffer from skin irritations under the creases of the breast.
  • If your breasts are hanging low causing the skin to stretch.
  • If the areola becomes enlarged due to the large size of the breasts
  • If your breasts make you feel self-conscious and they restrict you from doing any physical activities

All patients undergoing a breast reduction should be physically fit before they are qualified to have the procedure.  Lab tests and medical exams will be done to determine this, and this will include getting a baseline mammogram before and after the surgery to monitor any changes in the breast tissue.

What is a breast reduction procedure like for patients in Miami?

After establishing that you are qualified for a breast reduction and that you have a clean bill of health, you will be scheduled to have your breast reduction done in our office in Miami under general anesthesia.  This procedure is done on an outpatient basis so it is best to have someone with you during the procedure that can help you get home.

An incision line around the areola, a keyhole incision, or an inverted T incision will be made on the breast depending on the magnitude of breast reduction required.  From the incision line, our team in Miami will be taking out the excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue in the breast in order to achieve a more proportional breast size to your body frame.  These tissues are removed by a combination of liposuction and excision techniques.  When the perfect size and symmetry is achieved, the areola will be repositioned and the incisions will be closed with sutures.

The results of a breast reduction can be immediately appreciated after the procedure.  It is normal for patients to experience swelling but this should go down in a few weeks.  The incision lines are also permanent, but they will fade and become unnoticeable over time.  The results of a breast reduction are permanent.  Patients in Miami, have to remember though that it is still possible for the shape of the breasts to change due to factors such as aging, gravity, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and other hormonal changes.

Your smaller breast size will relieve the pain that you have been enduring for a long time and you will also be free from the physical limitations that you are experiencing before your breast reduction procedure.  Your new proportional figure will help improve your self-confidence and will stop making you feel self-conscious about having large breasts.
