What is a chin augmentation (genioplasty)?

Chin augmentation, also known as Genioplasty, is performed to add size to a retrusive or undersized chin. Dr. Alan Serure in Miami will discuss your facial proportions and help determine if you will benefit from a chin augmentation. A small incision is made either under the chin or inside the mouth to create a space above the mandible (jawline) and the appropriate size implant is placed. Scarring is usually barely perceptible.

Chin augmentation can be combined with liposuction of the neck or facelift procedure. Liposuction alone can sometimes be performed to remove fat from under the chin and contour the jawline. Dr. Serure may also use injectables to achieve subtle augmentation of the chin.

It is advised that out of town patients stay in Miami for at least one week so they can be observed and appropriate post operative care can be given.

Who is a good candidate for a chin augmentation?

Patients who are candidates must have good skin elasticity. Dr. Serure will evaluate your skin and discuss the appropriate surgery for you. Also, as in all procedures, patients must be in optimal physical condition.

What happens during recovery?

Following surgery, patients should remain on a liquid or soft diet for three days. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise and contact sports for four to six weeks following surgery and may resume normal activities within one week. Patients can usually return to work within seven days or less.
