What is breast revision?

Breast revision corrects the results of unsatisfactory surgery and long-term effects of aging, weight loss, weight gain, and menopause. Also, after a breast augmentation procedure, some patients may experience capsular contracture, which can cause the breasts to feel firm or painful. In some cases, the implant position may shift.

What is a breast revision procedure like for patients in Miami?

The type of breast revision procedure that you require depends on the underlying problem.
If you are considering a change in breast size, it may involve reducing breast tissue or, if you have implants, replacing them with smaller implants or many times having implant removal, also known as explantation.
Some patients may experience rippling of the implants or feel the implant edges. This can often be addressed by replacing implants with a more cohesive prosthesis.
If your implants are currently placed on top of the muscle, they can be repositioned under the muscle to help alleviate rippling.
If your implants are positioned incorrectly, such as extending too far to the side or too high, they will need to be removed, replaced, and the internal pocket (capsule) may need to be revised.
If your implants are too large for your body frame, they may need to be replaced. If your skin has stretched, a breast lift may be necessary at the same time. This procedure can help lift your breasts into a higher and more aesthetically pleasing position.
If your nipples and areolas have fallen over time, a breast lift can help restore their position. The type of incision needed will depend on the degree of sagging. Options include an incision around the areola, a lollipop type incision, or a full mastopexy incision. In extreme cases, a mesh sling may be placed to help maintain the position of the breasts and implants.

What is the recovery after a breast revision procedure?

The results of breast revision will be seen immediately. Full healing can take up to a year. Strenuous exercise should generally be avoided for at least a month, and chest exercise may be restricted for up to three months.
