What is liposuction?
Who is a good candidate for liposuction?
Candidates for liposuction (liposculpture) include patients who feel uncomfortable or troubled by the amount of excess fatty tissue or bulges on their bodies. This is especially true for those who are trying to lose weight using traditional diet and exercise, but have stubborn areas of fact that do not seem to go away despite all their efforts. Candidates undergoing liposuction should have relatively stable weight.
What happens during liposuction?
Before your surgery, Dr. Serure will mark the areas for liposuction (liposculpture) and review each area again with you. In our state-of-the art operating room, a board-certified anesthesiologist MD will administer local anesthesia infused with epinephrine to diminish blood loss, which is injected directly into the areas for treatment to facilitate the removal of fatty tissue.
Dr. Serure’s enhanced liposuction technique for optimal results involves inserting a thin tube called a cannula into the incisions and using the PAL® Power-Assisted Liposuction System to extract and suction fatty tissue out of the body. The incisions will be closed with small sutures, which will be removed 10 days to two weeks later.
What is the recovery for liposuction?
Following a liposuction (liposculpture) procedure, swelling and bruising will ensue at the treated sites. Patients will be given and placed in compression garments to diminish swelling in the treated areas. Patients may resume normal day-to-day activities within two or three days, however strenuous physical activities are restricted for three weeks following the procedure. Patients will be supplied with medication to minimize postoperative pain and discomfort. Thermage®, clinical treatment may be employed following liposuction to help tighten the skin.
