MASTOPEXY / MIAMI LIFT™ (BREAST LIFT) BY DR. ALAN SERURE IN MIAMI, FLORIDA
A Mastopexy, breast lift, is performed in patients whose breasts have sagged due to weight loss, pregnancy, or a woman’s genetic predisposition. The skin surrounding the breasts will stretch, sag, and the breasts may become smaller. Many times Augmentation (breast enlargement) is employed at the same time as a breast lift. It is performed through a variety of incisions, depending on the degree of sagging and the size of the breasts.
Breast lifting techniques depend on the magnitude of sagging. Lifting may be accomplished with an incision that is only around the areola (circum areolar), for minimal dropping. When skin is looser with more sagging, the incision around the areola is combined with a vertical incision (lollipop lift). In the most severe cases of sagging, the incision is around the areola, plus a vertical limb, and also in the crease underneath the breast, in an inverted "T" fashion (full mastopexy). The sutures used are all mostly entirely absorbable. The incisions are sealed with skin glue so patients may shower the day after surgery.
Whenever possible, in patients with less sagging and better skin elasticity, the MIAMI LIFT™ may be employed.
Mastopexy can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Anesthesia can be done with "twilight" sedation or general anesthesia, with the patient not experiencing any discomfort during surgery.
As in all procedures, patients must be in optimal physical condition. It is advised that out of town patients stay in Miami for one to two weeks following surgery so they can be observed and appropriate post operative care can be given.
